Following the learning year of 2006 the team was keen to implement new ideas. Although the car had a similar design philosophy to those preceding it almost every part of the car was in fact redesigned.
Whilst the hybrid front monococque and rear spaceframe was retained the front was reprofiled to aid driver comfort and to reduce the time of manufacture.
The powertrain and rear spaceframe underwent intense scrutiny resulting in a retuned engine and more compact rear end. The suspension system was redesigned as the first stage of an attempt to better understand the vehicle dynamics. Reprofiled bodywork ensured that the car looked completely different from its predecessors.
