The Redback Racing team is housed within the school of mechanical and manufacturing engineering at the University of NSW. The team welcomes UNSW students from all degrees and programs across the university.
At present the team is dominated by students from within the school of mechanical and manufacturing engineering. However one major goal of the team in 2008 is to form dedicated and active promotional, sponsorship and marketing groups.
Each year the team designs, manufactures, promotes, tests and races a small open wheeled racing car.
The Redback Racing team was formed at the end of 1999 with a view to competing in the inaugural Australasian competition in December of 2000. The team was one of just six Australasian entrants in the inaugural competition. A competition that the team won following a series of consistent results throughout the weekend.
Since its first year first place has proved an elusive goal for the Redback Racing team however the team has enjoyed a series of strong results with top five results in five of the eight Australasian competitions held.
